Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice that originated in Japan and was developed by Mikao Usui. It works by supporting the body’s natural ability to relax, rebalance, and restore itself. During a session, the practitioner channels universal life energy through their hands, either with light touch or hands held just above the body. Many people experience deep relaxation, emotional release, or a sense of calm and clarity.

What might I feel during or after a Reiki session?

Experiences vary from person to person. Some people feel warmth, tingling, or gentle waves of energy, while others simply feel deeply relaxed. Emotional responses such as a sense of release or lightness are also common. After a session, people often report improved sleep, reduced stress, greater emotional balance, or a feeling of being more grounded and centred.

What happens during a Reiki session with a qualified Usui practitioner?

A Reiki session is usually conducted fully clothed, with the client lying comfortably on a treatment table or seated. The practitioner will place their hands gently on or just above different areas of the body in a structured yet intuitive way. Sessions typically last between 45 and 60 minutes. There is no manipulation or pressure, and clients remain fully aware throughout, often entering a deeply restful state.

Is Reiki safe, and does it replace medical treatment?

Reiki is considered a safe, complementary practice and is suitable for people of all ages. It does not replace medical care or professional treatment but can work alongside conventional medicine to support overall wellbeing. A qualified Usui practitioner will never diagnose conditions or advise stopping prescribed medical treatment and will always respect personal boundaries and consent.
